Body painting of applying paint on the human skin as a form of costume and art. It doesn't have to be the nude human body though frequently it is done that way. Many times this is done in order to take photos of the subject or is done as part of an event.
[edit] Types of paint used
There are many kinds of paint that is used for body painting including textile acrylics, theatrical body paint, and temporary tattoo paint. Whatever paint you use it needs to have the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) non-toxic label. However the label "nontoxic" does not mean completely safe or nonhazardous in any case, and refers only to exposure to adults, not children so research carefully the body paint you are painting to use before making your choice. The Art & Creative Materials Institute, Inc. (ACMI) also certifies art products in regards to non-toxicity. The (ACMI) certification also requires that the product maintains a level of quality. [edit] Incidences of Nude Body Painting at Regional Events
- Solstice Cyclists (official site) Naked bicyclists get their body painted and participate in the Fremont Solstice Parade in Seattle.
- World Naked Bike Ride Many nude bicyclists get their body painted for this event.
- Oregon County Fair The Oregon County Fair has a strict non-nudity policy, except for the Fair's outdoor shower/sauna called "The Ritz" which is clothing optional. But their definition of "nudity" is far less restrictive than that of most of society. To them nudity only means uncovered genitals so it is common to see women with bare breasts there, and many of these woman have had their breasts painted as there are vendors at the Fair who do body painting. Fair is near Eugene, OR.
- AANR 2007 Convention at the Willamettans During the Convention on Tuesday August 7th from 1PM-3PM they are going to be doing body painting with judging from 4-5PM. Near Eugene, OR.
