On Lake Washington. See [1] The beach is the location of starting area of the 2005 and 2006 BFC Mermaid Crossing.

[edit] Mercer Island

Recent skinny dipping activity has been reported here.

[edit] Luther Burbank Park

BFC's 1st Polar Bare Dip Jan 2003

[edit] North Bend

[edit] Goldmyer Hotsprings

Hot Springs nestled in the foothills of the Cascade mountains, about 25 miles from North Bend. Must have reservations to visit. [2]

[edit] Rattlesnake Lake

See also Rattlesnake Ridge

I would also encourage folks to check out the beach at Rattlesnake Lake. [3] [4] Two of us hiked up to Rattlesnake Ledge on Sept 7, 2006 (clothed to the ledge as there were dozens of hikers – then naked up to Rattlesnake east summit and back. Then we checked out the beach area south from the trailhead, no one there, easily accessible, large flat area, beautiful scenery, swimming is OK, and it belongs to the city of Seattle. Rattlesnake Lake is a recreation area operated by the Seattle Water Department public utility. There is a very nice Cedar River Conservation Education facility on the east shore. The beach I'm talking about and trailhead for the Rattlenskae Ledge trail is on the western shore. The lake is reached from exit 32 (436th AveSE) in North Bend, and is about two miles south.

[edit] Lake Kachess

Lake Kachess is a very large and popular lake on the east side of Snoqualmie Pass, the 2nd exit (Ithink, well marked) after the pass. Road goes to a popular large campground, but if you hike up the trail from the campground, there are ample places for skinnydipping. Besides, nice and warm in the summer. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/getaways/73392_hike06.shtml

[edit] Seattle

See also Seattle Free Beach Campaign.

[edit] Burke-Gilman Trail

WNBR 2004, 2005, 2006.

[edit] Cal Anderson Park

BPR 2006 and WNBR 2006 stopped here in June.

[edit] Carkeek Park

BFC's 2nd Polar Bare Dip Jan 2004

Its fairly easy to go nude beyond the north boundaries of the Park. There was a Bare Buns Fun Run there Sept 1, 2008. Google map of area used for run. To get to this area, after arriving at Carkeek Park, cross railroad bridge, go to north of beach. This area is only available when the tide is out a bit. Few choose to venture up the beach because there is not major destination in that direction.

DANGER: Users are strongly urged to stay off the train tracks. Trains move fast and quietly along the tracks, many have died on these tracks. Steep fines have been recorded for people trying to access Point Wells by railroad track. See also legal info below.

[edit] Cowen Park

Solstice Cyclists 2003 short visit

[edit] Denny Park

WNBR Seattle 2005 June event stopped here for a small break, speak, count, Seattle Times took pictures here.

[edit] Denny-Blaine Park

Currently sporadic, quiet use. Very few reportings of recent nudity, but plenty reports of thongs.

Several Seattle Parks & Recreation worker report nudity used to be common as well as topfree use.

In the past the beach was also known as Dykiki (a playful combination of the work Dyke and Waikiki) because the area had a reputation for a large number of lesbians who would go topfree or nude on the beach.[5].

WNBR Seattle had its bodypainting part there on 17 Aug 2008, lots of nudity. Also on 7 Sept 2008 a group of skinnydippers put up a sign saying clothing-optional and used the north beach that way from about 10:30 am - 2:30 PM.

[edit] coverage

[edit] Discovery Park

(Also known as Disco Beach). Some locals quietly use north and south beach areas nude. Weekends see more clothed people on the beach. The beach has a history of sporatic clothing-optional use in the more remote areas of its shoreline, however, such use is currently not officially sanctioned by the City. A beach rally organized by The Body Freedom Collaborative's Seattle Free Beach Campaign on September 4, 2004 to shore support for clothing-optional use included the arrest of a man sunbathing, after a complaint was made to the Seattle Police.[6] The Naturist Action Committee has recently teamed up with local groups and the CIty of Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation to organize four beach cleanup events a year. See NAC Disco Beach Project.

Comment1: I really have never liked the Discovery Park area, too difficult to get to, faces wrong direction for sun, water too cold... however, any place is better than none, but Seattle is big place and there are so many better locations possible if we can get ideas like this flowing, we can be happier and more supportive in numbers!
Comment2: Good location, not perfect. I think this will be one of the first beaches to go partially clothing-optional in Seattle. Nice sandy beaches that are fairly remote. Long, long stretches of beach. Could be very easily signed. Descent down reminds me of Wreck Beach in BC. Disadvantages, tide goes way out on south side. Windy on North side. Sometimes you can smell sewage treatment odors. Dlj 06:37, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Drumheller Fountain (Frosh Pond), University of Washington

This area was used quite many years ago by a group before moving to Washington State Park Arboretum. It probably still sees sporadic use today with an active Greek System and several student residence halls nearby.

[edit] Elliot Bay Park

Port of Seattle Park [7]. Located to the north of Myrtle Edwards Park. WNBR Sept 2005 Autumnal Equinox Ride went through this Park.

[edit] Gas Works Park

During Annual WNBR Seattle and Solstice Cyclists events

[edit] Golden Gardens Park

  • North beach is out of view to those on the main stretch after the beach bends to the NE. During high tide there are two access points, which could be easily signed. The third access point occurrs when the tide goes out and connects the north beach to a sandbar that stretches to Carkeek Park.
  • BFC had its 4th Annual Polar Bare Dip at north beach in 2006.

[edit] Green Lake

See also Green Lake Park streakers.
  • Skinnydipping has occurred, only night swimming has been documented.
  • A parent was cited here for allowing his child to wade in the waters without diapers. This story was covered in the local press.
  • David Zaitzeff was arrested here for nude sunbathing in 2004?

[edit] Madrona Park

WNBR Seattle 2006 made two stops here. One stop included a brief yoga session, another included singing happy birthday to a family picnic.

[edit] Magnuson Park

See Magnuson Beach Bares for more information.

[edit] Matthews Beach

On Lake Washington. Location of terminal end of the 2005 and 2006 BFC Mermaid Crossing.

[edit] Myrtle Edwards Park

WNBR Sept 2005 Autumnal Equinox Ride.

[edit] Seattle Center

During WNBR Seattle riders enter on Harrison Street and use the International Fountain.

[edit] Seward Park

WNBR Seattle 2006. Included Beach Wade in.

[edit] Stan Sayres Park

WNBR 2006

[edit] Volunteer Park

During WNBR Seattle June 2005 and Body Pride Ride 2005. Activist Terri Sue Webb also organized topfree sunbathing here with some friends.

[edit] Washington State Park Arboretum

(North end)- Some people use this area nude. Known as Nudie Beach, in its hey day this area may have seen as many as 75 users per day. Beach use is documented by Lee Baxandall in the mid 1970s in a publication. (See Mark Storey for more info). There was a helicopter crash in the area that was part of an operation by local police who were periodically harassing the skinnydippers in this area.

Currently the area, has a reputation for some gay cruising. Others have described the area as a mud pit and not worth developing. The area had more gender-diversity in the past. Other than the beach use, BFC shot part of their film "Naked In-Sight" on the north part of the park in 2004. WNBR founder Conrad Schmidt shot footage for a WNBR promotional film with friends on a very busy warm summer day in April 23, 2006.

[edit] Woodland Park

Solstice Cyclists post-ride 2006

[edit] Purposely Unnamed location #1

See Friends of Secret Beach for more information.

[edit] Skykomish

[edit] Scenic Hot Springs

Hot springs high upon a mountain close to Stevens Pass up Highway #2 mile marker 59. Need permission of owner to be there but they often have work parties. [8]

These beautiful hot spring soaking tubs were demolished by order to the Bureau of Land Management due to reports of car break ins and crime that the state and local police felt were a problem.
