[edit] A new Seattle tradition!
- Vancouver, BC has its Annual 5K Wreck Beach Bare Buns Run in August...
- Portland, OR has its Annual World Naked Bike Ride Pre-Ride Fig Leif 5K Run/Walk in June at Forest Park...
- The closest event Seattle has is Bare Buns Fun Run (West) at Fraternity Snoqualmie in Issaquah.
Its time for Seattle join the ranks of Vancouver and Portland with its own Urban/Public Lands Bare Buns Fun Run + Body Painting Party!
[edit] Date, Time & Weather
- Mon, 1 Sept 2008 (Labor Day)
- Party/lunch @ 12 - 1:30 PM, Run starts @ 1:30 PM (Two days after the Midnight Madness Swim-in-the-Buff @ Medina Beach)
- Looking at the weather, Monday will be the warmest at 67 degrees F! Summer returns this weekend!
[edit] Location
- Carkeek Park (North of main beach), 950 NW Carkeek Park Rd, Seattle, WA 98177 Google map.
- Parks & Rec website
- Google Map of area we will be at <--- The most useful map for seeing where we will be.
After arriving at Carkeek Park, Cross railroad bridge, go to north of beach and look northward for us on the beach. The area we are body painting at and running on is north of of the main Carkeek Park Beach and this area is only available when the tide is out a bit. Few choose to venture up the beach so we should be mostly by ourselves.
[edit] Contact info
If you get lost or confused or want more info ahead of time regarding the event, call Daniel Johnson at (206) 369 2661 (mobile)
[edit] The Run
Looking at the tides we should start our run at 1:30 PM (aiming for 2-3 ft tide for enough beach access to run on)
Course length ~ .96 mile or 1.54 km (if we don't run on Carkeek Beach proper, we can vote if we are going to do this at the end or not)
At present, this run is not organized as a competitive event. Keep track of your own time or have your friends do so. Perhaps as the group becomes larger this is something we can look at changing.
Like the Naked Pumpkin Run, you participate at your own risk.
[edit] Potluck/lunch
Bring something to share with others or bring your own food lunch at 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM. Pack out your own garbage and recyclables.
[edit] Body painting party
There will be a Body painting Pre-party at 12:00 - 1:30 PM (Bring your own paints and brushes if you have them, Daniel will also bring some).
Theme: As Bare as You Dare/Body Painted/Costume/Disguised as anonymously as you need to be
[edit] What to bring
- Running gear: shoes (we will be running on gravel)
- Basic beach gear: Sunscreen, water, food, beach towel, inflatables
- Funky running gear:
- Body painting materials (small containers (to paint out of), paint, brushes, stencils). Some may share body painting supplies for a small donation.
- Costumes
- Whatever you need to have fun.
[edit] The tides
Allen and Daniel have been checking out the tides in this area with three visits to the area. Here are the tide tables. We should be done with the run by the 3 ft tide.
[edit] Coming up
We are also planning on an optional fun run following WNBR West Seattle (Ride + Retreat + Run)
Body painting party and ride will be Saturday, 6 September 2008 and will leave Camp Long in afternoon after a body painting party at the main Lodge.
