- UPDATE: I spoke briefly on the phone with two of the organizers of this Saturday's Ride, Emily Miller and Todd Tollefson. "The three main things that I think of WNBR representing are the promotion of body acceptance, alternative transportation without the use of oil, and increased awareness of bikes" said Emily. On the theme of bike awareness, Emily says that she'd "like to see the City get involved more officially in how we (pedestrians, bicyclists, cars) interact with each other".
- Todd mentioned one of WNBR Seattle's taglines: "Because the Solstice Parade isn't the only time you can ride naked in Seattle".

- KUOW-FM 94.9 FM National Public Radio The Conversation - Hosted by Ross Reynolds. Main Topic : "Should Seattle Ban Nudity in Public Parks?" Thursday, 13 Nov 2008, 1 PM Seattle's naked bicycle riders are a big hit at the Fremont Solstice parade every year. But naked bike riders also take less highly–publicized rides through Seattle parks. Some people have complained. The Seattle Parks department is considering a ban on nudity in public parks. Is this a blow for common decency or a rabbit punch from the nanny state? Would you ban nudity in Seattle parks? The Conversation is a call-in program that covers news-oriented and other topics. Show featured Howard Williamson, a local representative of the Naturist Society, a national organization that advocates for clothing–optional living; as well as NAC Board Member Mark Storey and Body Freedom Collaborative Co-founder Daniel Johnson. - Seattle Post-Intelligencer Cyclists need to soft-pedal their wants, September 9, 2007 6:08 p.m. PT By Dean Trier, Guest Columnist. Against activist cyclists, including naked cyclists. Excerpt:
- I have nothing against bikes, bikers, bike clubs or bike trails. But it's not the bikes or everyday cyclists that concern me: It's the in-your-face radical activists and their two-wheel orgies -- characteristically rude and, on occasion, in the nude -- such as coalition rally-rides blocking traffic on downtown streets. Am I alone appalled by such belligerent, anti-social stunts?
- Seattle Post-Intelligencer First-person account of Critical Mass by P-I intern Evi Sztajno. (Two small references in report) Posted by P-I/New Media at July 30, 2008 12:05 a.m. Excerpt:
- Also, take a look at my first-person account of the Critical Mass ride Friday:
- A young professional from Bellevue who drives his car to work. A couple visiting from Tucson, Ariz., and their 2-year-old son. A middle-age woman riding with her Wiener dog in a basket, and a naked guy.
- They're not exactly people you'd think would go on a bike ride that turned violent. But they were pedaling through downtown Seattle as part of critical mass Friday night when the monthly cyclist-awareness event turned into a knock-down-drag-out affair.
- ...And let me tell you, by the time you get to the top of that steep hill, going commando doesn't seem like such a strange idea anymore.
- Seattle Post-Intelligencer Critical Mass bike ride comes off without incident by Moises Mendoza, P-I Reporter. Last updated August 29, 2008 10:05 p.m. PT. Excerpt:
- One man rode around wearing a pair of shorts but no shirt. And as soon as riders headed off en masse he stripped off the shorts and rode naked, despite the cool weather.
- Yeah, Critical Mass is back, there's a naked rider, baby!" one woman yelled.

Interview with Q13 Fox News reporte Roxeanne Vainuku was done with Daniel Johnson at Lincoln Park just off the upper south parking lot. They wanted to do a story trying to make sense of why the Solstice Cyclists are allowed by the City of Seattle to run around naked in a very public, open way with thousands of people watching and yet a proposal for a private evening skinny-dipper swim in a largely enclosed pool facility at Colman Pool has been rejected.

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee, Illustrations by Robert Ullman. Daniel Johnson's comments: "The online version differs from the printed version because I asked them to make corrections after reading the factual errors. The printed version suggested that BFC was behind the Colman Pool proposal, which is not true. The people who are interested in renting out Colman Pool are simply a loose association of local skinny dippers, myself being one of them. Also, my comment about the Solstice Cyclists was taken out of context. We were discussing the controversy about the Solstice Cyclists in the Summer Solstice Parade, I never meant to suggest that the Solstice Cyclists are a broken record themselves. They are constantly reinventing themselves creatively and I am a proud supporter of that group."

- Sept 8, 2006 The Doris Monson Show on KIRO Newsradio, Doris discusses MBB on first hour of show [15] (show archived on SFBC site) and into the second hour [16] as well. Dori reads e-mail exchanges with Johnson and Dori's producer regarding Storey and Johnson appearing on the show, and argues that MBB should purchase their own land for clothing-optional use, avoiding the use of tax payers' money for that purpose. Phone calls were taken from people who were supportive or against the group's mission. Dori argued that it is not normal to be naked in a park, it is "aberrant behavior", therefore skinny-dippers in Seattle are "freaks". He also claimed that "in general this is a homely bunch of people". Dori examines images of people on the SeattleBeaches.org Web site to judge how attractive people are who are involved in the group. Dori also examined other aspects of the Web site, including polls cited and a quote by Gandhi.
- KIRO Newsradio "Getting Naked Sept 7, 2006 - On some of these warm, late Summer days, it's only natural to want to take off your clothes to get cool, right? 710 KIRO's Rachel Belle has the skinny on some people who are doing just that." Inverview with Mark Storey. The show is available in MP3 format (916 KB, 2 mins 10 secs. long [17] (KIRO site) or [18] (SeattleBeaches.org site). Mark discussed Magnuson Beach Bares and also very briefly discussed World Naked Gardening Day.
- Following the Sept 7, 2006 Rachel Belle segment on KIRO, Dori Monson said, in a brief teaser for his show later in the day, "You want a piece of Magnuson Park you find your own money and go buy a strip of beachfront yourself. Don't force the taxpayers to buy it for you, ya Freaks!" Dori Monson's Show Producer requested that Daniel Johnson and Mark Storey go on the Dori Monson Show (a KIRO 710 AM Show), however, both declined.

- The Seattle Times, Fremont shows its sunny side by Reid Forgrave June 17, 2001 [51] "There was no better illustration of the fair's quirkiness than in its parade - with its wild costumes, floats and giant puppets - and nude bicyclists, which led to a flap over the permit for this year's parade. ... Before the city issued this year's parade permit, police said they have gotten numerous complaints about the nude cyclists every year. They asked the Fremont Arts Council to post signs along the parade route warning cyclists, who are not a sanctioned part of the parade, about laws against indecent exposure. The council said no, even though members discouraged the nudity. ... In 1998, two bikers in the buff were arrested. None were arrested this year."
- The Seattle Times, Tale of how city got its groove back Jan 9, 2001 Editorial by Nicole Brodeur / Seattle Times staff columnist [52] with small reference "There have been no sanctions, no fines, no closed-door committee meetings or blue-ribbon impanelizations. Our elected parents didn't send the police to chase down Some People as they threatened to do with the naked cyclists in the Fremont Summer Solstice Parade. (Criminy.)"
- The Seattle Times, If you fret, stay clear of Fremont May 17, 2001 by Nicole Brodeur. [53] According to the article "Police want parade organizers to post signs noting the laws against indecent exposure, and warn of possible prosecution. Organizers want the cyclists to stop mooning the event's true hallmark: artistic freedom."

"Some people in the community are going to get nude if he (Sidran) starts arresting the cyclists," he says. ... "First, there was 50, now there's like 100 people. . . . Who knows what kind of chain reaction this is going to bring."" Also, read Seattle Police Department, Lt. Police had asked that the signs be posted for this year's parade, set for Saturday. ...Council President Bradley Erhlich said the public nudity might be a form of artistic expression. ... Only such a rich artistic community could shake off the staid reserve from nearby Ballard to let loose with such creative energy and fun. ... Buck-naked cyclists who streaked the parade for the second year may have crossed the boundary of good taste (would that be Leary Way Northwest?).
