Talk:Pacific Northwest

From Naked Wiki

How about a Legal section, detailing what we know and understand as to the legal take on public nudity in various parts of the Pacific Northwest.

[edit] Events Right Over the Edge

I believe it is important to keep this wikia focused on events and locations where nonsexualized nudity is practiced. But there are some events and places that are not as clear as others regarding their sexual nature. Would it be a good idea to list these in a separate section or not to list them at all?

I for one would list Burning Man and associated events like Critical Massive as falling in the area of events right over the line but I realize that when you get as close to the line as these events are sometimes it is a judgment call. The events I am talking of are of an arguably sexualized nature, so we probably wouldn't want to connect these events with nudism, naturism or any other forms of nonsexulized nudity. But still these events aren't so sexualized to be like people having sex in front of others at the event or something like that.

Here are the events and places I didn't feel quite right including but perhaps should be included in its own special section.

  • Little Red Day Spa This is in Seattle. This is run by the same people who also own The Little Red Studio that puts on erotic theater events. That is why I don't feel comfortable listing this place though it does say that all sessions at the Little Red Day Spa are non-sexual. No sexual activity is allowed during sessions, including between couples. But again this is the same place that puts on erotic theater shows so how non-sexual can it be at the spa and what type of person makes up their clientèle? Treatment room and hot tub are clothing optional.
  • Weekly Sunday Morning Yoga at The Center for Sex Positive Culture. In Seattle. I guess the location indicates why I would probably not want to put it up here. This is put on by a very sexual group. But, Yoga, how could that in and of itself be sexual? Perhaps I shouldn't ask. Anyway, I don't believe you have to be a member of the sex club to participate. If you do, obviously then it shouldn't be on this Wikia. Clothing is optional but nudity is highly encouraged to develop your erotic energy.
  • Network for New Culture 2009 Summer Camp West *August 7th-16th, 2009, Fri-Sun This is in Southern Oregon. I used to have this event listed until I read some guy mocking that Nudists are advertising this event. The goals of this summer camp is to provide extended experiences in building a sustainable, violence-free culture through exploring intimacy, personal growth, transparency, radical honesty, equality, compassion, sexual freedom, and the power of community. Yeah, the sexual freedom part does indeed seem to disqualify the event so it would be better not to post the event. But it does allow children to attend and it does say that the primary workshops and exercises offered at camp are entirely non-sexual. And they do ask that campers confine their sexual activity to the privacy of their own tents, Gosh, with children there I sure hope they do but given the nature of the people there and their mentality even if they do, this is probably not a good event to list. This was proven when it was listed before. They call the summer camp an optional clothing environment.

Well here are the events and places that I go back and forth about whether to list. Perhaps they aren't appropriate here nor perhaps would a separate section be appropriate. You decide. I guess I wanted to post them here somewhere and so here I just did.

[edit] Burning Man Regional events

Thought this might interest you regarding Critical Massive.

Open Letter to AANR

This shows the importance of labeling regional Burning Man Regional events not as places where non-sexualized nudity takes place but as places where both sexual and non-sexualized nudity takes place.

By the way, have you figured a coding system for the events yet?

Not yet, let's figure something out. Talking in person is good for me. I'm scrambling right now as I just found out the City is hiring me back starting tomorrow morning. Dlj 02:49, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

  • One category for events sponsored by nudist groups.
  • One category for nonsexualized nudity events not officially sponsored by nudist groups but by individual nudists (such as nude movie night).
  • One category for nonsexualized nudity events not officially sponsored by nudist groups but by individuals who don't consider themselves nudists (nude Bungy jump for exampe).
  • One category for public events where non sexualized nudity or topfree is traditional (eg Fremont parade, Oregon Country Fair)
  • One category where nuditification (unexpected nudity) will take place (World Naked Bike Ride).
  • One category for Burning man and like events where sexualized as well as non-sexualized nudity might take place.
  • One category for events where it has been reported that nonsexualized either partial (top free) or total nudity has taken place in the past (Events with no formalized nudity rule but in the past nudity has been sighted and tolerated)
  • One category for pagan events where nonsexualized skyclad rituals will take place.
  • One category for pagan events where nonsexualized and sexualized skyclad rituals will take place.
  • One category for art performances where nonsexualzed nudity will take place.

[edit] Don't forget Portland, Oregon's Regional Event

I just don't know if any nudity takes place there. Also, there seems at this time to be some confusion regarding the dates. It seems to be around the third week of July somewhere near Salem, Oregon.
