Talk:Social nudity in media

From Naked Wiki

Not Everything British happens to come from the BBC In fact several shows regarding nudism and also nonsexual nudity has come from Channel Four.

Regarding Social Nudity on TV does this include all English programs including those programs broadcast in other countries such as Great Britain, Canada, Australia, etc.?

If any of the television shows I mentioned isn't quite what you are looking for please remove them.

The Diary of a Teenage Nudist had already been included by someone else. This show to my knowledge has never been shown in the US though it has been shown in Australia.

I do not know if The Celts was shown in the US, like on PBS or something like that.

I do know that Shaka Zulu was shown in the US in 1986-1987. Not on the major networks but on independent channels in syndication. In our area it was on channel 11 from May 18-22nd 1987. I was surprised that they would show half naked women but they did. It is amazing that in the late 1980s they were allowed to show stuff like this but now they aren't.

With the "pixalization" that can be done in post production today nudity on television isn't shown at all over the airwaves. In previous decades there was a "jungle scene" exception for documentaries (also I think there was a "Holocaust" exception for naked dead bodies) and also for art work when it came to showing naked people. I don't know if it was a written rule, I doubt it, but that was generally the only nudity you would see on non-cable television in the US. But now with pixalization the practice seems to be to always pixaliate the nudity and that includes jungle scenes and art.

On NCIS when they show autopsy scenes they don't "Pixalate" but the part where the penis would be is "blotted out". It is like a light is being shined on it that is too intense for it to be seen.

I know in Canada it used to be the case that topless women were sometimes shown on the air. I don't know if that is the case now or if there is some kind of rule on time of day it could be shown

Now in Great Britian, after a certain hour non-pixalized nudity (most commonly female toplessness) is quite commonly broadcast over the air on their television. It is typical like in crime dramas to see a naked dead lady in the bath and such (showing at least the breasts without pixalization).

But in 2000 in Great Britain there was a backlash on nudity over the air after a British Television Network had a game show with naked people in it.

So, my question would be whether to include "The Diary of a Teenage Nudist" as well as the other British shows I have listed on the web page. Or is this just regarding to how nudity and nudism is portrayed in the American media?

Include whatever is appropriate. The site is international in scope. Does that answer your question? Dlj 23:40, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Not really as shouldn't the subject stick to America media as it shows American attitutes towards nudity?
I'm not sure if I understand. This site should have an international tone so whatever info you have from wherever in the world is valuable. Cheers Dlj 23:54, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NYPD Blue

NYPD Blue was famous for actual nude scenes in the 1990s but I don't know if the nudity would fall into a social nudity concept. Although I believe they did sometimes show the back of men as they were taking showers.

Here is a list of actual nudity (as opposed to nudity where the nudity is hidden by something in front of it or by "pixilization" or a computer drawn black line or other graphic in front of it).

[edit] Big Brother Britain

Here's a link to some of the nudity that has occured on Big Brother Britain
